Site Engineer
Role Overview
We are looking for a proactive and experienced Site Engineer to support the delivery of high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) substation projects. Acting on behalf of the design team, you will oversee the coordination and implementation of engineering designs on site — ensuring accuracy, feasibility, and alignment with project specifications across contestable and private works up to 132kV.
This is a hands-on role based primarily on construction sites, supporting the successful execution of a portfolio of complex infrastructure projects.
What will you be doing?
You will be responsible for:
Leading engineering input and coordination on site for HV and EHV substation projects
Acting as the key site contact for design-related matters, liaising between the design office, contractors, and project teams
Overseeing the implementation of the design packages issued for construction. The design packages include:
Main connection and protection single-line diagrams
Cable route designs and cable installation plans
Switchgear and transformer specifications
CT, VT, and battery charger sizing
Cable sizing and multicore termination schedules
Small power and lighting system layouts
Control room, switchroom, and substation layouts
Ensuring site activities align with:
EP engineering standards and procedures
UK legislation, industry standards, and client requirements
DNO/IDNO policies and technical specifications
Supporting the issue, clarification, and resolution of technical design documentation on site
Managing multiple live projects across various UK locations
What are we looking for?
Experience working for or with an ICP, DNO, or IDNO
Site-based project experience in EHV substation delivery up to 132kV
Strong understanding of UK and DNO infrastructure projects
Familiarity with BSEN and ENA standards
Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings
Comfortable working on active construction sites with regular travel
Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills
