Senior Quantity Surveyor
Role Overview
Ethical are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial and contractual management across major power infrastructure projects, including renewable energy, transmission and distribution, and conventional generation schemes. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring cost efficiency, contractual compliance, and commercial success throughout the project lifecycle.
What will you be doing?
Pre-Contract Duties
- Develop detailed cost plans and feasibility studies for power generation and grid connection projects.
- Advise on procurement strategies for EPC contracts and specialist packages.
- Prepare and review tender documentation, BOQs, and pricing schedules.
- Evaluate contractor bids and prepare tender reports with risk and value analysis.
Post-Contract Duties
- Manage project budgets and monitor cost performance across multiple work packages.
- Certify interim valuations and contractor payments based on progress milestones.
- Assess and negotiate variations, change orders, and claims.
- Prepare and agree final accounts with contractors and suppliers.
Contract Administration
- Ensure compliance with NEC, FIDIC, or bespoke energy sector contracts, including raising timely, and compliant Notices
- Support resolution of contractual disputes and claims.
- Liaise with the Project Manager and planner on site AND legal teams, consultants, and stakeholders including grid operators and developers.
Risk & Value Management
- Identify and manage commercial risks related to grid delays, environmental constraints, and supply chain volatility.
- Lead value engineering initiatives to optimise cost and performance.
Reporting & Communication
- Produce accurate cost reports, forecasts, and commercial updates for internal and external stakeholders.
What are we looking for?
- Proven experience in power infrastructure projects (renewables, transmission, generation).
- Strong understanding of EPC contracts and standard forms (NEC, FIDIC).
- Familiarity with grid connection processes and energy sector regulations (e.g., OFGEM).
- Proficiency in cost management tools
Commercial & Financial Acumen
- Expertise in budget control, cost forecasting.
- Skilled in managing multi-package contracts and complex supply chains.
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
Leadership & Communication
- Ability to lead and mentor junior QS staff.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in client-facing roles with developers, utilities, and government bodies.
- Able to communicate with all site and office-based team members
Qualifications
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related field.
- Chartered status (MRICS or equivalent) preferred.
- Minimum 7–10 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in power or energy projects.
